What does the second "N" in UNN stand for?

The second “N” stands for Nsukka. The University of Nigeria was founded in Nsukka in 1955 as the country’s first fully indigenous university. Although the university now includes multiple campuses, the original name—UNN—remains.

Where are Nsukka and Enugu?

Nsukka and Enugu are located in southeastern Nigeria. Nsukka is a historic town in Enugu State, while Enugu city is the state capital. Both are part of the culturally rich Igbo region of Nigeria and are considered major academic and cultural centers.

Why is UNN called the Lion’s Den?

The Lion is the official symbol of the University of Nigeria. It represents strength, leadership, and pride—values that generations of alumni and supporters identify with. The Lion has become a cultural icon for the university worldwide.
